I remember reading a newspaper article about five years ago that claimed that due to modern technology and a shift in our lifestyles, books would soon be become obsolete. Thankfully, this is not the case and our appetite for books is greater than ever. In fact, books have certainly moved on with the times, and this brings us to our latest offering from the Hubble & Hattie stable entitled Bonds.
The cover of this book is sleek, modern, and glamorous and can we say it? Sexy! Moving away from the traditional book with a plot and a start and finish, Bonds highlights in stunning colour photos, the connection between humans and our dogs, from a dog's prospective.
Every page of this book contains a photograph of a dog with their owner, each picture bringing out the unique characteristics of the different breeds. For example, the alertness and energy of Jay the Border Collie shines through, as does the elegance and grace of Apollo the Hungarian Vizsla. You can almost feel the confidence of the feisty Westie Raymond, and of course Rocky the diminutive Chihuahua who just knows he’s the biggest and best of them all!
We’re introduced to all of the dogs photographed in the last few pages of Bonds, which includes their interests and hobbies which adds a lovely warm feel to the book.
Anyone who has attempted to take a half decent photograph of their dog will understand how difficult it is to capture a good shot, without their pet turning away from the camera or not sitting still or simply blinking at the wrong moment.
I guess the book could be described as a coffee table book, but without the hefty price tag that these books often command. Yes, it does look stunning on the table and is certainly a lovely thing to pick up and browse. In fact, it’s inspired me to start taking more day-to-day photographs of my English Pointer Florence, although the standard of my photography is obviously not so high as author and photographer Indre Cukuraite. Hopefully this gem of a little book will inspire you too!
