The Devon Rex is a delicately framed cat with large erect ears and a curly, velvety coat. It is also commonly known as the poodle cat.
The body is lean and athletic although having shorter legs than the Cornish Rex. The head appears small and with large ears the Rex does have an ‘extraterrestrial’ appearance. The breed is intelligent and easy to train. They are affectionate, lively and playful.
The Devon Rex does not shed its fur as much as the average cat breed, but remains unsuitable for cat allergy sufferers as the allergic reaction is caused by a glycol-protein that is found in the skin, saliva and urine rather than in the hair itself.. The coat needs little grooming, just a daily rub down with a cloth.
The ideal weight of a Devon Rex is 2.5-4.5kgs (6-10lbs)
A healthy Rex can expect to live on average between 12-13 years.
Litters tend to produce 3-6 kittens.
The Devon Rex is seen in all recognised colours and markings. Eyes tend to match the shading of the coat.
